Avoid Any Holiday Plumbing Problems this May 24 Weekend!

May 17th, 2013 · No Comments · by

We’ve seen countless times how a plumbing problem can put a quick damper on a holiday. You expect to relax, spend time with friends and family and enjoy your extra day off as much as possible. The last thing you want to worry about is rushing to Google or the phone book (do we still use those?) to find a plumber on a holiday who can come to fix your problem fast so you can get back to relaxing, especially this May 24th long weekend.

Below are some tips for what to do if you encounter a little problem. But sometimes you’re left with no choice but to call a plumber. Luckily, the DrainWorks team of Toronto plumbers are available and certified to take on your project. So finding a plumber – that’s one problem solved.

Tip: It’s always best to have a ‘go-to plumbing company’ you can call when a plumbing issue happens. The last thing you want to be doing is rushing to find a legitimate, reputable plumber when you need them fast. That’s why our phone number is so easy to remember: 416-486-0000!

Clogged Drain on a Holiday?

Sink Drains:

  • Try using a sink plunger. See our previous blog post comparing the different types of plungers if you aren’t sure which one this is. Ensure there’s enough water in the sink so that the plunger has something ‘to push’, and make sure to keep a good seal. This can usually fix simple kitchen sink clogs.
  • Try pouring hot or boiling water down the sink. You can follow this up with 1/2 of baking soda. This helps dislodge and break down and organic compounds which are stuck in the drain pipes. Although vinegar and baking soda can work together as well, make sure you do research as to how much to use. Unless you’re an experienced chemist and know something about plumbing, experimenting too much can be dangerous for you – and the plumbing system. All in all, if it comes to that point, you might be better to give us a call.
  • See also our tips on properly disposing of kitchen grease – one of the main culprits for kitchen sink clogs.

Toilet Clogs:

  • Try using the toilet plunger, and again, see our previous blog post comparing the different types of plungers if you aren’t sure which one to use. Make sure there’s enough water in the bowl for sufficient power but not so much as to cause splash-back, because we don’t want that..
  • Make sure not to flush anything down that shouldn’t be going down there. Things like baby wipes or paper towel are much tougher than toilet paper, and can become easily caught up in the pipes.

With good maintenance, care, and prevention, you are much more likely to avoid a plumbing problem. However, sometimes these things just happen. We hope it doesn’t, but if it does, we’re here to help and will be quick to solve you problem and get you back to enjoying the time that matters.

Enjoy this May 2/4 long weekend from the DrainWorks team!
