Video: Is this the best plumbing invention since the plunger?

June 13th, 2014 · No Comments · by

Nobody likes dealing with a clogged toilet, as using a plunger can often be an unpleasant task. As the old infomercial tagline goes, “There’s got to be a better way!” Well, maybe there is.

This video from South Korea is of a product called either the Pongtu or Pung-too (media reports vary.) Whatever it’s called, you have to see it to believe it.

Before you watch it, note that  the video appears to be taken of a real toilet clog. Consider yourself warned, and get ready to be amazed!

The adhesive piece of plastic is currently sold in South Korea, and costs about $24 for a pack of three.

Seung-il Kim, the inventor, told ABC News that developing his product was quite a lengthy process.

“I had a prototype about four years ago, but it took me two years to develop a special adhesive that was strong enough and worked on a ceramic surface,” he said. “I wondered if there was a better way… It’s the same principle as a plunger — using pressure — but it creates a lot more pressure than a plunger.”

While it remains to be seen whether this will one day replace the plunger around the world, it’s definitely garnering attention. The video has been viewed almost 4 million times in a few short weeks.
